The World Dog Show in Helsinki is a large-scale international production hosted at the Messukeskus Expo and Convention Centre. As the technical and creative partner for the main arena, Capital AV was responsible for a central element of the show design: a movable LED screen that served as the primary entrance for judges, participants, and opening ceremonies.
The Challenge: Zero Margin for Error
The centerpiece of the production was a LED screen measuring 17.6 meters wide and 6.3 meters high. Comprising 154 Absen T5 panels, the total weight—including cabling and trussing—amounted to approximately 3,600 kG. This screen had to be opened and closed dozens of times during the event.
The primary challenge lay in closing the two screen halves. To ensure the visual content remained seamless, the sections had to align perfectly. Stopping a fraction too early would result in a visible gap; stopping a fraction too late would damage the fragile LED pixels due to the significant mass in motion.
“It’s like driving two cars toward each other and needing them to stop exactly before they touch,” says Timo, Lead Operator at Capital AV. “The final millimeter is the most critical part. Because you are operating from the back of the screen, you have to rely entirely on the system’s precision.”
Efficiency in Setup and Operation
Capital AV utilized a combination of CyberTrack and CyberHoist II to manage this movement. The system’s accuracy allowed the stop points to be programmed with total consistency. Despite the high frequency of movements during the show, the screen reached the exact same position every time.
Beyond precision, the system offered practical operational advantages during the build. In the tight schedules of international trade shows, installation speed is essential. The entire track was installed by just two technicians in a single night. This allowed the LED crew to begin mounting panels the following morning, providing more time for technical rehearsals and fine-tuning.
By controlling both the heavy LED trolleys and the ceremonial flags through a single Motioncue 3D console, Capital AV kept the workflow organized. A single operator could manage the entire system, minimizing the risk of manual errors.
The Result: Versatile Performance
For Capital AV, the World Dog Show demonstrates the value of investing in high-end automation. It allows them to solve complex technical requirements, whether involving a heavy LED screen, a piano, or an aerial act, using a single reliable system.
By combining strength with precision, Capital AV can focus on the creative vision of their clients, confident that the technology will perform exactly as required under any circumstances.
CyberMotion: A Durable Investment
The partnership between Capital AV and CyberMotion has spanned over ten years. In the Finnish market, having this system in-house serves as a clear differentiator. While the hardware has been in active use for a years, ongoing software support ensures the equipment continues to meet modern technical standards.
